Happy New Year to everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful festive season. A lot has been going on over the past couple of weeks……..to say the least. Firstly I would like to thank Dougy and his lovely wife Annie for organising the Christmas party. It was an excellent evening and the money paid by members to attend will go to the Ebenezer School for the blind, which is one of the Police charities. Also, I would like to thank Dawn for donating the bottles of bubbly for the prizes. I’m sure Jeremy and Jo and Oli and Devin enjoyed it.
The New Year’s Day tournament went off well again. It was an excellent day of youth rugby where some exceptional skills and rugby wizardry were on display. Thank you to all who turned out to ref and to watch. It was noted over and over throughout the day that the tournament would not go ahead without us.
As you have no doubt heard, as of today, January 3, 2014, Bernard will not be continuing his role as Performance Referee Manager for the HKRFU. The events leading up to and since this announcement has been the subject of much discussion and understandably, much emotion. Members of Excom have met with Dai Res (HKRFU Head of Technical Development and Performance), Trevor Gregory HKRFU Chairman & ARFU President) and Vern Reid (HKRFU Chief Executive) to discuss the situation to gain a clear picture of the events leading up to this decision. Bernard is meeting with the HKRFU today and will have an Excom member in attendance. Excom is holding an extraordinary meeting this evening (Friday Jan 3) to discuss all the information gathered with a view towards the way forward from here. More information will be forthcoming over the next couple of days.
Good luck to all those tooting this weekend. I will be at the Tertiary tournament at KP on Saturday if you would like to have a chat.
